ATELIER
ART MENTORSHIP AND COMMUNITY
Currently, I am putting the Atelier Art Mentorship and Community on Hold.
I may start the Thursday sessions back up in September 2022. If you are interested in this weekly event please message me and if I have enough interest I will proceed with the ongoing Thursday classes in September.
ATELIER
An atelier is the private workshop or studio of a professional artist in the fine or decorative arts or an architect, where a principal master and a number of assistants, students, and apprentices can work together producing fine art or visual art.
Time: Thursdays Session One: 1-4 PM Session Two: 5-8 PM
Place: Sterle Fine Art Studio
8 N 9th Street, Temple, Texas 76501
Person: Susan Sterle
Cost: $30
MISSION
Create a community of artists that meet once a week to receive feedback on recent work and to grow personally and professionally. To provide a place for artists to work on their own projects or do exercises to increase their skill and knowledge in the topic of the week.
GOAL
To teach the art of SEEING, and provide students with the skills necessary for expression of what is seen and felt through art, using drawing and painting.
This weekly session is designed for artists that are committed to an investment of time and effort to build skills and hone their craft.
If you are just starting out and unsure if this is a long-term road you would like to take, please take one of my beginner workshops.
The beginner workshop is designed to help those who are undecided or would like to see if pursuing an art endeavor is for them.
CLASS FORMAT
First 15 – 30 Minutes
During this time, I will critique artists’ work from the previous week. Artists will have an opportunity to participate in a healthy discussion of their work by all the artists in the room. This type of open discussion will allow students to improve at a faster rate than if we were working alone.
30 Minutes – 45 Minutes
Lecture and Demonstration on one of the topics below. On some weeks I may bring in a guest speaker to give us a different view on a the topic.
2 Hours
Free time to paint and/or draw projects of artists choosing, or work on provided exercises from topic of the week. During this free time Susan will also be working on her own projects. This will give artists the opportunity to view her painting process and ask questions. Occasionally, a model may be hired to sit during this time.
NOTE: Classes and mentorship are taught by Susan Sterle. If Susan is not available to instruct the class, one of the Sterle Fine Art Studio Foundation Artists will instruct the class.
